Looking at Life Through a Child’s Eyes

“Hey Gammi, I know why you married Papa,” my five-year old twin grandson had that look on his face, like he had just discovered some amazing universal truth.

I looked up from the book I was reading. “Really?” I was ready for a sweet compliment, an innocent observation, a verbal hug.

Ha! Surprise! I should have known better.

“You married him because you are old and he is old,” he said.

Hmm.

Well, makes a little bit of sense. A little.

Horrified, his mother rushed in to correct the little guy. “You don’t tell people they’re old.”

I stood up for him. “Why not. He’s just stating the truth.”  Ouch, from the mouth of babes.

Isn’t it refreshing to see the world through the eyes of someone who has only logged in a few years on the planet? They have no concept of time. Parents and grandparents have always looked this way, the way they are today. Period.

When he was small, my oldest son questioned the concept of color. “So Mom, when did they invent color?”

I wasn’t ready for that one. “There’s always been color,” I answered.

“No, not true.” He pointed to the television screen where I was watching an old sitcom. “See, in your day everything was black and white.”

Hmm.

The good thing is that we are all young children in God’s eyes. He sees no aging. And, he see us in vivid color.  And, He wants us to stay that way.

Matthew 18:3 says,   “And he (Jesus) said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Not a bad way to perceive life.

My wonderful readers… (drum roll)… I have great news. My novel, Lake Surrender has just been released in an audio book form and I am doing backflips. You see, I was able to nab a wonderful narrator, Kirstin Price. You may have seen her on a Blue Buffalo dogfood or Steak and Shake commercial on television. She brought my book to life, and understood the story on a very emotional level. She even made me cry… what the heck!

Take a peek and listen to a sample and you’ll see what a talented actor she is. Here’s the link. https://www.amazon.com/Lake-Surrender/dp/B07C659BHQ/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1524773960&sr=1-1

Enjoy the spring!
